1968年のRYMトップ50アルバム。ソウルとフリージャズが主流でロックはまだまだ傍流だった時代

そのリストが以下になる。

リリース年月日は本国でのもの、またクラシックとサントラは除いてある。

1位は当然ホワイトアルバム。当時ニューヨクタイムズに ”ビートルズは疲れた” と批評されたアルバムだが結果的には今でもビートルズのベストだ。

その後はジミヘン、ベルベッツ、キンクス、ヴァン・モリソン、ストーンズと続いていくが、さらに下を見るとジャズやソウルの方が多くなっていく。

1969年と同じで、ソウルやジャズ(特にフリージャズ)が一番尖っていて、ロックの世界では真にオリジネーターだったものだけが評価され残っているというところか。

それ以外のロックはむしろ試行錯誤の時代だったのかもしれない。この時代があったから後のグラムやパンクに繋がっていた訳なので。
