1973年から50年
今年2023年は1973年から50年目。
いつも史料確認に使っているRateYourMusic.comで ”1973年リリースのアルバムでユーザ評価が高いもの” トップ100を抜き出してみた。
これまではトップ50まで紹介していたが、トップ100まで広げるともっと俯瞰的に50年前の様子が分かるだろう。また、トップ100はロック/ソウル/レゲエに絞り、Jazz編とブラジル/ラテン編は別リストにしてそれぞれトップ10を紹介する。
1973年のトップ100のリストは次のとおり。リリース年月日は本国でのものである。
1973年といえばピンク・フロイドの「狂気」がまっさきに思い浮かぶが、やはり当然というかそれが1位。
広告Canが2位というのは当時を思い起こすと信じられない高評価だが半世紀経って残る音楽というのは、やはりこういう音なのだろう。
その他トップ10には「インナービジョン」、「太陽と戦慄」、「ロウ・パワー」、「月影の騎士」、「血まみれの安息日」、「聖なる館」、「四重人格」といった当時でも名盤扱いのアルバムが並ぶ。
10位のジョン・フェイヒィは以外。Canと違ってこの人の場合は当時も今もマイナーもマイナー。しかも、この「Fare Forward Voyagers」は彼にとっても異質なアルバムだし。
リストを見ると分かるが、この時点ではプログレがかなり幅を利かせている。そしてグラムロックの全盛期でもありレゲエが一般にも聴かれるようになった時期だというのも見えてくる。

それにしても、1973年も1972年に続いての当たり年。というかロックという音楽のピークかもしれない。
